Call for Candidates for ICMA Credentialing
Soliciting interested candidates to serve on ICMA Credentialing Advisory Board
ICMA is seeking a diverse group of candidates interested in serving three-year terms on the ICMA Credentialing Advisory Board, starting in Fall 2025.
We encourage you to submit names of ICMA members in your state who you believe would be excellent candidates for this role. Eligible candidates should be:
Credentialed Managers who have been in the program for at least three years and have local government CAO experience, whether currently serving or retired.
Individuals with a military background are a plus.
Please ensure that the candidates reflect ICMA’s commitment to diverse leadership, including gender, race, ethnicity, age, etc. State and affiliate associations are encouraged to submit more than one name for the position.
Serving on the Credentialing Advisory Board is a rewarding experience but requires a significant time commitment, including monthly deadlines, conference calls, an annual meeting in the fall, and occasional meetings/sessions at the ICMA Annual Conference. The role requires both policy-level work and attention to detail. For more information, please see the attached list of responsibilities.
According to Executive Board policy, candidates may be from any state in the Southeast region, with preference given to rotating representation. The Southeast includes Alabama, Florida*, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina*, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. (*Florida and North Carolina are already represented on the Credentialing Advisory Board, and the outgoing CAB member is from Florida. Past protocol dictates that no state may succeed itself on the Credentialing Advisory Board, nor may the new member come from a state that is already represented, unless there are no qualified candidates from other states expressing interest in serving.)
Please submit your recommendations to jjackson@icma.org by September 15th. Top candidates will be asked to discuss the duties and time commitment with the ICMA Credentialing Advisory Board Chair in late September. The Chair will then make a recommendation to the ICMA Executive Director and ICMA President, who will make the final selection decision in early October.
